FRED LIZARDO has been around Chevy’s as far back as
he can remember. His Dad bought a new fully loaded 1951 Chevrolet
Belair. It was black with red interior. The bumper guards had
extensions with rear fender skirts and full wheel covers and the Belair
even had fog lights.
Fred was raised by his uncle and aunt who owned a
1956 Belair and a 1958 Nomad. His other uncle had a 1958 and 1960
Impala. He recalls his relatives, who farmed, all driving Chevy trucks.
In 8th grade Fred was reading a Motor
Trend magazine article about a 1970 Chevelle 454. The great looks of
the Chevelle and the horsepower rating of 450 stuck in his mind. This
was his dream car. When an older classmate gave him a ride in his new
red 1970 SS 396 4-speed Chevelle; Fred was hooked.
Unfortunately, Fred’s dad had other plans for
Fred’s 1st car. Fred was able to save up a little money from
his paper route and ended up with a Chevy VEGA. Was this a
disappointment? Fred thinks not. It was a pretty cool car. It was a
bright yellow GT 4-speed. A few months after buying the car, he shocked
his Dad, who looked under the hood to see Fred’s engine now had 2 valve
covers instead of 1. Fred and his Vega saw many a day at Fremont
Raceway. Fred has also owned a 1967 Camaro RS and a 1970 El Camino.
Fred’s has had another dream, and this one has
come true. He is now the proud owner of a 1969 RS SS. It is Cortez
Silver with Black Rally stripes. It is powered by a roller rocker 350
small block, 700R4 transmission and a Moser 12 bolt Detroit Tru Trac
rear-end with 3.42 gearing. The interior is black and white hounds
tooth. It sits on top of 18 inch BonSpeed wheels with BF Goodrich KDW
II’s. He has a killer audio system powered by the latest Arc Audio Chip
Foose edition speakers and amp. Custom installation by Ben Lizardo of
Acme Tops and Tunes of Sacramento.
